Ethics is what governs our attitudes as human beings. I do not want to discuss the meaning of the word in the dictionary, but rather what I mean by ethics. I disagree with the view that it is only part of the professional field of life. I think ethics is like character. I do not understand how anyone can be ethical at work and not be at home. Because it is not about following professional standards. To be ethical is to act according to what you believe. You can only tell if there is ethics in your life when you can answer the basic questions of your daily quest: what do I want to do on this planet? So, yes, you can judge whether what you think is according to what you do. If it’s not, it’s already being unethical.
I think it is first a particular thing, individual, and then a social issue, where rules and laws come in. And what seems to me to be fundamental in not allowing your ethics to be in disagreement with the laws of society is to realize that one’s ethics need not not attack the other. Therefore, I also believe that ethics is linked to citizenship. It is related to your truth and to be a citizen your truth must always be at peace with the well-being of humanity.
I have ethics at a much higher level than power. Because power, which is earthly, is only an instance, it ends.Ethics, if you have it, is in you and never goes away . Power is in all things and at the same time, in nothing, it does not exist concretely. After all, what is it? Power is having lots of money? Is it knowing all the holy scriptures and living in a temple?
Or is it owning all the information in the world? Power is the great coin of this planet, but it does not stop at anyone’s hand.
Remember: if you are an ethical being, you are a powerful being. A good human has more than all the power in the world!
